Many women find postpartum to be among the most challenging times of their lives. Giving birth is only the beginning of your transition to motherhood, and the biggest adjustments are yet to come. As your postpartum doula, I help to look after your physical and mental well-being during your “fourth trimester” and assist you to adjust to life as the mother of your new baby.

Here are some ideas of what it can include:

Emotional Support

Provide non-judgmental listening and reassurance

Offer guidance through emotional challenges after birth

Encourage and validate your feelings during this transition

Infant Care Assistance

Teach newborn care (diapering, bathing, feeding)

Assist with establishing feeding routines (breastfeeding or bottle-feeding)

Help with soothing techniques and understanding infant cues

Physical Recovery Support

Offer tips for healing after birth (vaginal or C-section)

Assist with light household tasks to allow rest and recovery

Help manage physical postpartum symptoms

Sibling and Partner Support

Assist older children with the transition of having a new sibling

Provide resources and tips for partners to be involved and supportive

Light Housekeeping

Do laundry, wash dishes, and other light household chores

Prepare simple meals and snacks for the family

Help maintain a tidy and organized space

Breastfeeding & Bottle-feeding Support

Offer hands-on help with breastfeeding positioning and latching

Provide guidance for formula feeding or pumping

Address any feeding concerns with up-to-date advice

Sleep Support

Help establish healthy sleep routines for the baby

Assist parents in finding time to rest and recover

Offer tips for improving sleep quality for both baby and parents

Resource Referrals

Connect you with local resources (lactation consultants, pediatricians, support groups)

Offer recommendations for additional postpartum care services

Non-Medical Assistance

Provide gentle care and nurturing, but not medical advice

Refer you to professionals if any medical concerns arise

Compassionate, Ongoing Support

Be available for emotional and practical support as needed

Offer guidance and care from the first days postpartum to the weeks and months ahead

  • Day-time services: $35/hr

  • Overnight services: $40/hr
