Postpartum Doulas: Easing the transition into parenthood.

You’ve probably heard it before, or if you’ve given birth before, maybe you’ve even experienced it: that feeling new parents have when they strap their brand new baby into a carseat and walk out of the hospital or birth center. Their thoughts are often along the lines of, “They are seriously just going to let me walk out of here with this thing?”

If you choose to give birth at home, you might have a similar feeling with the midwife leaves. You’re left all alone with your new baby, and suddenly you are solely responsible for the care of this brand new little human.

Not only are you unsure of your untried parenting skills, but you are absolutely exhausted from the experience of giving birth, and you have a lot of physical recovery to undergo while looking after this new baby. Add to all of that learning to breastfeed and/or pump, frequent night wakings, and learning to soothe a little one who is undergoing the major adjustment to life on outside the womb.

Overwhelming? It certainly can be.

That’s where a postpartum doula comes in.

What Does a Postpartum Doula Do?

As a trained and compassionate postpartum doula, my role is to be by your side during the crucial days and weeks following the birth of your little one. Our journey together begins with an emphasis on providing emotional, physical, and informational support tailored to your unique needs and preferences. I”ll get to know you and your family and make it my mission to cater my services to your specific postpartum needs.

1. Emotional Support

Becoming a new parent is an extraordinary and transformative experience, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. A postpartum doula is your empathetic companion, offering a listening ear, a caring heart, and a safe space for you to share your thoughts and feelings. Whether you're navigating the highs of joy or the lows of exhaustion, I'm here to support and validate your emotions.

2. Physical Comfort

Recovering from childbirth can be physically demanding, and this is where the expertise of a postpartum doula truly shines. I'm here to assist with light household tasks, meal preparation, and ensuring you have the time and space to rest. From helping with breastfeeding positions to offering guidance on postpartum exercises, my goal is to nurture your well-being.

3. Informational Guidance

Motherhood comes with a myriad of questions, and I'm here to provide evidence-based information to empower you in making informed decisions. Whether it's newborn care, feeding techniques, or understanding your own postpartum body, consider me your go-to resource for valuable insights and practical tips.

4. Learning Parenthood

There is so much to learn as you adjust to new parenthood, and it can certainly be a lot to figure out on your own. I can help you and your partner learn to get more sleep, soothe a fussy baby, navigate feeding issues, and much more.
